Between February 2011 and September 2016,  I served as a a member of the Board of Trustees and a member of the investment committee of Yorkshire Cancer Research.  ​One of my main tasks was to help with a strategic review aimed at moving away from just pure research to more a patient centred approach. ​In particular we wanted to address the fact that 2,000 people die in Yorkshire, every year over and above the national averages. The strategy, launched in November 2015 aims to invest £100m to stop the inequality for Yorkshire people and for 2,000 fewer of them to die of cancer, by 2025.​  See also my work with Welcome To Whitby
